Le Marche
As one enters Le Marche, the
identity of a Region that greets you with its bright sun, its green
mountains and the fragrance of its fields, appears in all its
certitude.
The Region, starting from the Adriatic coasts, consists of series of
hills that takes up most of the territory, while further inland the
Apennine Mountains, it reaches considerable heights with the
Sibillini Mountains.
These mountains take their name from a legend telling that one of
the Sibyls hid on Monte Sibilla in a cave known as "Grotta delle
Fate"(Cave of the Fairies), when she was chased out of the
underworld.
Everywhere the villages and the medieval towns swallow people up in
a historical dimension turning them into spectators of steep alleys
opening out on the steps, squares, arcades and glimpses of panoramas.
The amenity of these places is more than just the variety of
landscapes, the beautiful rocks or the green hills, but also
mysterious and remote legends that have symbolically marked the
continuity of the spirit of these lands, chosen by Mother Nature to
paint itself.
